Victor Drai Beats Down Chris Brown

0

Chris Brown, known mainly for his ability to still get gigs despite liking to beat women, has called Victor Drai’s Club a racist, and in turn, has been removed from his gig at Drai’s Night and Beach Club.

Chris Brown could have apologized, and according to Drai’s reps, he might have been able to stay working at the gig.

Still many people have said that Drai was just looking for an excuse to kick out Chris Brown, as their partnership hasn’t gone well for Drai. Being linked to a celebrity woman abuser has made more than a few local influencers say they would never go to Drai’s again.

Also, with Chris Brown being sued for allegedly beating up his manager, venues’ insurance is likely to go up if they insist on booking this female boxing legend.

Of course, a little vodka and a Friday night, most of them end up going anyway.

Vegas Dave Loses $1M on UFC 200

0

After being banned from his favorite club Hyde for cocaine possession, the worst thing may have happened to Vegas Dave ever: he lost $1M on betting on Meisha Tate for UFC 200. In what could have made him one of the most famous sports betters ever, and reportedly the biggest bet on MMA ever instead backfired badly and landed him one of the biggest loses ever.

Vegas Dave Doesn't Give a Shit.
Vegas Dave Doesn’t Give a Shit.

The funny thing about this, is that I don’t gamble, but really was considering putting a little bit of $10k or so on Meisha Tate, because of Vegas Dave.

Despite this huge loss, he’s made some amazing bets that have shown that he not only pays attentions, but all that partying hasn’t affected his ability to analyze what is going on. The brain is still working just as good, and even with a few brain cells dying, his talent is above and beyond any of us.

Was this a real bet, or him seeking attention? He knew what he was doing: he has a huge business selling tips every month, which makes him in theory, just as much as betting. If he had won the bet, he would have made at least as much on sales of his tips.

So what does this mean for Vegas Dave Oancea? Nothing. He’s going to still be raking in the dough and this is just a small bump in his crazy wild Vegas lifestyle. Haters will be haters, and it’s truly sad that many people wanted to see him lose. He’s still rich, and has a hot girlfriend.

Garth Delivers Goose Bumps at T-Mobile Arena

0

It’s amazing how music effects our soul. 25 years ago, as a young adult I dabbled in country music. I had been an avid 80’s hair metal kind of girl up until I discovered Garth Brooks’ third album in 1991, Ropin’ the Wind, which had continued his career’s sky-rocketing success. This girl was suddenly obsessed with all things country.

Fast-forward 25 years, as life tends to do — and I’d left my brief interaction with country music far, far, far behind me. Until a few days ago… when I was offered tickets to one of his Las Vegas limited engagement shows, the late Sunday, July 3rd show, to be specific. I didn’t have to think twice about jumping at this opportunity. I had often thought during his five-year residency at Wynn Las Vegas, I’d someday find time to go see his show there, but never did. This was for me a bucket list experience.

garth2We had tickets to view the concert from Hyde Nightclub on the 5th floor. The gathered crowd on Toshiba Plaza was massive at the main entrance, and they were opening doors about 30 mins late, due to the earlier 7pm show running over. However, we were directed to the West Suite entrance and had a very minimal wait in line to enter the elevator up to the 5th floor. The club space covers the back perimeter section of T-mobile Arena, just under the rafters. It has multiple VIP areas set up for bottle service during live music events, as well as multiple full-service bar areas. As luck would have it, we were soon led to a very comfortable couch area and settled in for an anticipated great show.

Garth Brooks, the consummate professional rockstar, in his own right, did not disappoint. He was likable immediately, and even shared personally when attending his favorite concerts as a fan, he wants to hear the good ol’ stuff, the hits… Then went right into all of them for the next two plus hours! Garth, his band, and the entire arena crowd were energized from the first song through the last, which played out until nearly 2am in the morning.

Singing along to nearly every song, including his wife Trisha Yearwood’s limited yet highly-entertaining set in the middle of the show, I was transformed into the young woman who’d first fallen in love with the rising country music star, way back when. Leaving the arena with all the tingly feelings and awash with memories and emotions that are the reason millions hand over their hard-earned cash for concert tickets for their favorite artists the whole world over.

Vegas Glossies Need to Stop Stealing From Bloggers

0

There’s a certain amount of weird “better than thou” attitude I have encountered from some of the magazine writers when it comes to showing respect and credit to “bloggers” for their work. In fact, one writer for Las Vegas Weekly a few weeks ago “warned” me about crossing him, because only the “real journalists” and paid “journalists” have access, and he could “ruin my career.”

In the culinary world the respect given to bloggers, by the food journalist is often non-existent and insulting, even when they blatantly copy the work these bloggers do to fill their pages and make their deadlines.

Recently, food critic John Curtas expressed his dislike of Las Vegas Weekly taking his ideas, the spots he introduces as “new finds,” and then give him absolutely no credit.  The conversation on Facebook, embedded below ended up with several reviewers insulting each other, in jest, but brought up a few good points.

While I understand that many people will investigate and review “hot restaurants,” when you examine the content, the timing, and the amount of restaurants that reviewers copy from the “amateur” bloggers, it becomes really clear they aren’t just copying where they are going, but often copying the review as much as possible – leading me to wonder if most glossy weekly food reviewers are even going to the restaurants.

In this case, John Curtas of Eating Las Vegas is one of the most respected, most influential food reviewers in Las Vegas. He’s been doing this long before many of these glossies existed and the owners of them were still parachuting cocaine on weekends after drinking too much. He’s introduced many of these restaurants, year after year, from on TV to his website to the culinary community, and ignoring his work is just insulting and unprofessional.

Simple solution: Credit and Link to John Curtas’ website when you steal his stuff.

Just an idea.

Mark Walhberg Servers Burgers On Strip

0

Actor and former underwear enthusiast Mark Walhberg isn’t just known for showing his package in almost every movie he’s been in, but is also known for packing a lot of meat in his burgers. Yes, today launches Wahlburgers Las Vegas at the Grand Bazaar Shops, their first Las Vegas location.

With everything you could want from Mark and his much less known brothers Donnie and the almost never mentioned, Paul, it offers counter and table servers plus all the Walhbergers…burger merchandise you could want.

Mark Wahlberg is an actor known for his roles in The Departed and The Perfect Storm, while Donnie Wahlberg was a founding member of the music group New Kids on the Block and also is an actor. Paul Wahlberg is a chef. Th

The reality TV series about it, also called Wahlburgers, debuted in 2014, three years after the first location opened in Hingham, Mass. The exposure has helped attract customers to the restaurant.

According to Paul Walberg, who is the Chef du Cuisine of all the location, their best selling burger is, “called the government cheese,” with Wahl sauce, lettuce tomatoes, housemade pickles and onions. “It’s like the government cheese. It’s just orange American cheese, but we use it as a reminder of where we came from.”
“We have a bacon burger which sells very well, and we also have Mark’s Burger, which is a turkey burger with cranberry sauce, stuffing, mayonnaise and roasted butternut squash.”

Best Bars in Las Vegas: Vegas Bar Hall of Fame

0

Whatever you want bartender wise, you can find here in Las Vegas. Why? Because everyone comes here to drink, and everyone likes different things to drink. From shitty dive bars that only serve piss beer to the high end gastro-pubs that serve beer in wine glasses and have names for their beer pourers. Anyway, we’ve previously mentioned the best bartenders in Las Vegas, and even the best Beer Adventures in Las Vegas, so what is left?

One thing magazines love to do, rightfully so, is give their advertisers awards. It’s why the LVRJ makes up an estimated 10,000 different categories for restaurants, so that all their advertisers can get an award.
Vegas Seven, known for being the best magazine to take a shit while reading, has their 5th Annual Bar Hall of Game. While there isn’t an actual “BAR HALL OF FAME,” the title gives it an unusual amount of gravitas, and since we like Vegas Seven, we’d like to give our opinions.

Here’s who we believe should win, regardless of advertising, based on the choices that they have, and see if we can’t tilt the voting a little to be realistic.

Best Dive Bar:
Sand Dollar Lounge
MG_0187Between getting herpes from the seats at Moon Doggies or being shanked by one of their  employees, and Sand Dollar lounge, I would choose Sand Dollar.  It’s been around since 1976, and it’s one a classic Vegas bar, for anyone who really loves bars. Even though they were “Bar Rescued” change names, and changed back, and then had two names, sued Bar Rescue they were sold and the new owner said, “Staying true to the roots of the bar, we are going to focus on live entertainment. Having great bands here nightly is going to be our main objective. We want you to know that no matter what night you are looking for something to do, you will find the best music in town. During the week we will have many recurring events including things like our popular open mic night, funk jam and other local bands. On the weekends we will be booking a variety of local and touring acts, featuring different genres like hard rock, classic rock, blues, reggae, ska and much more. You can always take a look at our schedule to see who is playing throughout the month.”

Old School
Sounds like another word for “really shitty dive bar.” No idea what these are, so really won’t give my opinion. One of them isn’t even in Las Vegas, strangely enough. Vote for whomever you want. I’m not sure anyone under 80 is going to any of bars listed. Honestly, I can’t say I’ve even seen any of the bars listed, let alone been to them. This is a “don’t care category” to obviously appease someone.

Strip and Environs
Mandarin Bar
Mandarin-Bar-Las-Vegas-5Only choice here, sorry, is the Mandarin Bar. All the way up on the 23rd floor of the ultra-posh Mandarin Oriental, this sexy lounge serves the best handmade cocktails we’ve ever seen. With spectacular views high-above the Las Vegas Strip, the Mandarin Bar is an elegant hot-spot for a night on the town. The interior offers a contrasting dark intimate mood with billowing fabric panels shimmering in the light. Discreet seating arrangements give guests privacy and comfort. Our mixologists create cocktails according to the flavor and sensation you are looking for. A VIP section with a sliding partition and separate service is available by reservation.

Best Downtown Bar.
Artifice
artifice-barIgnoring that Frankie’s Tiki Room isn’t “Downtown,” i have to go with Artifice. Not even sure why they put Frankie’s which is on the wrong side of Vegas, “downtown” but I guess was to include it in something? Described as ”a creative drink menu served in dark, bohemian lounge featuring dance floor, live bands & diverse DJs,” this place has a cool vibe and a good selection of unique wines.  Signature drinks include; The Warhol, Taming of the Shrew, and Nicky Free. Strangely enough, the voting criteria says that all bars must be open for 5 years, but Artifice opened less than 4 years ago, I believe. Still, it has my vote because the bars I really like aren’t on this.

web1_bar-sep06_082413JL_01Neighborhoods
Born and Raised
Born and Raised is easily the best of the choices here, with the best bar food year after year. Any other place listed doesn’t even come close to the history this Bar has created on the West Side. Born and Raised or B.A.R. located in the southwest area of town is a true locals spot created by real locals. Being a native to Las Vegas myself I can truly say they did it right. An upscale lounge feel that has 32 flat screens to ensure everyone has the best seat in the house. Their menu matches the decor, from a seared ahi tuna salad to slider creations you have never heard but glad you tried.

The Craziest Fried Sandwhich Returns to Las Vegas

0

This July, put on your game face, set your timer, and get ready to tackle summer’s craziest fried chicken sandwich with the return of The Smorgasbird from Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken – just in time for National Fried Chicken Day on July 6th. For every Smorgasbird sold, Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken will donate $5 to the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.

Featured as the July Sandwich of the Month, The Smorgasbird is an enormous double-decker monster of a bird, and consists of two classic Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken cutlets, stacked high with caramelized pineapple, shredded lettuce, tomato, crunchy pickled cucumbers, doused with Blue Ribbon special sauce, and finally, stuffed with Game Day Fries (fries with BBQ pulled chicken, aged cheddar, sour cream, smoked bacon, and pickled peppers) – all precariously held together by a toasted bun.

The Smorgasbird is also the only sandwich of the month with a challenge component: attempt to finish the sandwich in under five minutes and encourage your friends to beat your time by sharing a photo or video on Instagram, tagging #Smorgasbird and @BlueRibbonFC, as well as one friend you wish to challenge. All participants are entered in a chance to win a free Hail Mary Platter from Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken, which includes 25 wings, 25 chicken tenders and one side – as well as the glory of having conquered the Smorgasbird!

For those who can’t fathom finishing The Smorgasbird in five minutes, the upside is that for every sandwich sold, $5 will be donated to the MS Society to help raise awareness for multiple sclerosis and support funding for research and treatment – it’s fried chicken with a cause.

The Smorgasbird will be available from July 1st – July 31st at both Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken New York City and Las Vegas in Downtown Summerlin for $15. Check back in next month for details on the August Sandwich of the Month!

Three Injured at Omnia Nightclub

0

Early Saturday night three people were carried out of Omnia on stretchers as DJ Calvin Harris rushed out of his gig after playing. While what caused the injuries, several people reported feeling unusually sick, perhaps not used to drinking excessively with the extreme heat. Hospitals could not comment, citing patient confidentiality.

Three separate ambulances and medical teams had responded, blocking traffic, not allowing even the famous DJ to leave the scene it seemed. The producer had to wait for a while to get into his SUV and get back to LA.

Omnia nightclub is owned by the mega restaurant and club company, Hakkasan.

Stop Bitching about Paid Parking at MGM and Get with the Program

0

I get it: You’re one of those people who really want to save the $5 in parking fees in order to spend five more minutes on the Sex in the City Slot Machine. The vibrations of that machine when Samantha wins just gets you going every time. When the MGM announced that they were going to institute parking fees, you felt cheated of the free services you’d had for so long, and more importantly, the ability to park in their parking structures and then go to another casino altogether.

However, let’s look at all that MGM has done to invest in Las Vegas, without taking hundreds of millions of government money that some people are proposing for their projects:

1) The Park
The Park shows MGM’s dedication to providing unique spaces for everyone including families. This three acre outdoor entertainment and food destination features plants from the native Mojave desert and unique architecture that exemplifies the beauty of our city and environment. “We’re not transplanting landscape that’s from North Carolina here. These are beautiful plants from the Mohave Desert,” said MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren.

2) T-Mobile Arena and NHL Hockey
T-Mobile Arena is the centerpiece of the new entertainment Capital of the World. As we change from focusing on just gambling, to non-gaming models, this arena is a MUST for our growth. The partnership between AEG and MGM allowed an amazing new entertainment and sports space to be made without any government funding, providing enormous revenue opportunities and jobs for locals. Built with bringing the NHL also in mind, this means that we will have our first major league sports team in 2017. They took the risk to build this amazing arena, and in return we are getting a new sports based economy that will continue to help produce jobs and income for Las Vegas for decades to come.

3) Top Golf at MGM
The Top Golf Partnership at MGM grand has already seen enormous success with hundreds of locals getting jobs here, and providing an experience outside of clubs and bars (although it sure feels like one.) With amazing food, amazing beer and all the golf fun and excitement that comes with attempting to whack a ball as hard as possible while drunk, this shows how MGM is expanding fast to help make Vegas bigger and better.

MGM has clearly shown dedication to keeping their locations up to date, redesigning and keeping the economy flowing by providing new experiences. All these projects have been a huge investment in the economy and has provided thousands of new jobs, both in construction and long term jobs working at these locations.

We have seen in the last few years tons of promised construction projects from new developers, who have in the long run left huge holes in the ground, making the strip look worse and hurting development in those areas. MGM has kept their promises to our community, and keeps on growing – and as part of that growth, we need to accept we may need to pay more for those services in order to continue to grow the strip and Las Vegas.
