Editorial: Why Jim Murren of MGM Supports Vegas Football Stadium

0

The legislation passed by the Nevada Senate and Assembly today marks an important transition for our entire state as it ensures maintaining Las Vegas’ world leading position as a tourism and convention city by laying the groundwork for significant expansion and development of the world-class entertainment already offered by Las Vegas in an industry that employs hundreds of thousands and contributes approximately half of all tax revenues in the state.

Over the last 16 months, representatives of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, the City of Las Vegas, the Clark County Commission, along with representatives of the major gaming and hospitality industry employers, have worked together as the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee to draft recommendations for keeping Las Vegas the premier tourism destination of the world.

The committee unanimously recommended legislation to bolster law enforcement in the tourism corridor, fund a critical expansion and modernization of the Las Vegas Convention Center, and provide a stadium not only for professional and UNLV football but also as a new entertainment venue capable of hosting events previously unattainable in Las Vegas. The recommended legislation also protects Nevada taxpayers from cost overruns.

Indeed, the stadium and Convention Center package will provide tens of millions of tax dollars annually to state and local governments. These projects – the Convention Center upgrade and expansion as well as a new stadium – will strengthen Nevada’s economy by creating thousands of jobs, generating more than a billion dollars in new economic activity annually and providing even more tax revenue for infrastructure projects and our classrooms at all levels.

Las Vegas has historically been willing to reinvest and reinvent in order to remain as the leading tourism and hospitality destination in the world. Today’s action sets in motion two projects that will help to secure this effort for generations to come.

Bratalian Restaurant Re-Opens After Destruction

0

chefcarlaGreat news for the beautiful and talented Chef Carla Pellegrino who almost lost her restaurant when a truck crashed through the front. However, thanks to community support and her undying dedication to Las Vegas, it has reopened.

According to Gayot.com: “ Carla Pellegrino and her sister, Alessandra Madeira, are behind BRATALIAN in Henderson. The name implies a Brazilian/Italian theme, though the dishes are mostly Italian. Pellegrino is the former executive chef at Rao’s at Caesars Palace, and Madeira was a chef at Baldoria in New York and has worked alongside her sister as a sous chef. The morning menu includes “The Shrek Skillet” — Basquaise-style roasted potatoes, Champignon mushrooms, spinach, Italian sausage, smoked gouda, bacon strips and three sunny side-up or scrambled eggs. Dinner options range from salmon in harissa sauce to veal saltimbocca to pan-seared New York steak.

This is the Ultimate Vegas Weekend Experience

– Ultimo – A Weekend of Excellence, the most extravagant culinary event of the year in Las Vegas, will be soaring to new heights as participants are treated to a weekend itinerary with the theme “Le Grand Voyage,”  Dec. 9-11.

The fourth-annual event, hosted by The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas, will include lavish feasts and exceptional experiences from an all-star lineup of chefs and wineries from around the world. The weekend’s itinerary – the most ambitious to date – will take guests on a “grand voyage” as it unfolds around The Venetian and The Palazzo, and, for the first time ever, across the Las Vegas valley.

This year, guests will be treated to several unique experiences like the Rolls-Royce driving experience, and a hot-air balloon ride and Dom Perignon picnic at Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area, located 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. In addition, a Louis Vuitton fashion experience will be held at the resort’s new boutique in Grand Canal Shoppes.

“Every year, Ultimo has produced the most spectacular gathering of world-renowned chefs in Las Vegas,” said Sebastien Silvestri, vice president of food & beverage for The Venetian and The Palazzo. “For the culinary enthusiast, this is always a weekend to remember.”

A portion of the proceeds from the weekend-long event will benefit ment’or BKB Foundation, a leading non-profit organization devoted to inspiring culinary excellence in young professionals and preserving the traditions and quality of cuisine in America. The organization’s aim is to build a sustainable community of young American professionals who are knowledgeable and confident in their career pursuits and will be life-long ambassadors of quality and excellence in the world of gastronomy. Ment’or is dedicated to making the careers of serious young individuals more meaningful and successful by offering them unique educational opportunities, internships and access to established mentors.

To accompany this lavish culinary experience, several wineries will provide noteworthy pairings, including Dom Perignon, DAOU Vineyards, Marqués de Murrieta, Memento Mori, and Pio Cesare.

THE WINEMAKERS

A culinary adventure as big as the Grand Banquet would not be complete without the finest wines from around the world, each adding something unique to Ultimo’s stellar around-the-world wine program. These wines will be delivered in person by the winemakers behind them:

  • Pio Cesare, Piedmont’s acclaimed fourth generation winemaker, will bring his decadent single-vineyard Pio Cesare Il Bricco Barbaresco 2004. The vintage is a favorite of Cesare, who reveres the traditions of Piedmont and counts his grandfather Giuseppe Pio and his father Giuseppe Boffa as mentors.
  • Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, Count of Creixell, will travel from Spain with his MarquĂ©s de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Blanco Gran Reserva Especial 1986, a white Rioja that earned an astounding 100 points from Robert M. Parker Jr. For 20 years, the innovative Cebrián-Sagarriga has been at the helm of the esteemed MarquĂ©s de Murrieta estate, which has been making wine since 1852.
  • Brothers Daniel and Georges Daou will debut their spectacular Daou Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Patrimony, whichhasearned 99 points from Robert M. Parker Jr. The limited-quantity vintage from the rugged hills west of Paso Robles, California, will be uncorked at Ultimo, poured for the first time for guests at the Grand Banquet.
  • Hayes Drumwright, Adriel Lares, and Adam Craun will present Memento Mori, their powerful Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.  Layered with dark raspberry and blackberry flavors, it is the essence of “Cab Country” in the United States.
  • An ambassador of Dom PĂ©rignon will pour several vintage varieties of the famed Champagne. Each vintage wine is created from the best grapes grown in one single year, a true challenge for a unique interpretation of the seasons, and for reinvention. Both Dom Perignon Vintage 2006 and Dom PĂ©rignon RosĂ© Vintage 2004, the rare jewel within the range, will be enjoyed at the Grand Banquet. In addition, Dom PĂ©rignon P2 Vintage 1998, the Second Plenitude of Dom PĂ©rignon, will be shared at a surprise moment during the weekend’s festivities. Vegas Attorney Brilliantly Slams Pick-Up Artist Julien Blanc for Advising Sexual Assault on Japanese Women

0

This is perhaps the best letter I’ve ever seen from an attorney, and frankly is more than a little appropriate considering all the news surrounding Donald Trump. Julien Blanc is a local Las Vegas “expert” in dating (commonly known as a pick up artist) who has been generally panned for his advice to men on how sexually assault women. He’s been BANNED from entering the UK and Australia for being a danger to women.

Of course Julien and his attorney Maurice Pilosof of Hecker Law Group has done all he can to make sure that no one learns about his reported love for sexual assault and has been sending threatening letters to websites for some time trying to get anything down that makes him look bad. In this case he wanted website 8Chan to take down a video that had him talking about  “If you’re a white male (in Tokyo), you can do what you want…head on dick.”

One of these horrible videos shows Blanc assaulting women in Tokyo by pulling their heads to his crotch in public spaces, aggressively grabbing store clerks while a videographer shouts “beautiful, sexy,” and giving an excerpt of his pickup lesson on being a white man in Tokyo.

In response to his legal letters, genius attorney Marc Randazza of Las Vegas sent this brilliant letter, completely slamming both the attorney for a horrendous cease and desist, and their client for advocating sexual assault.

Perhaps the best part is when Randazza replies: “Imagine my delight when I learned that I don’t need to be a billionaire to do whatever the fuck I want.  I’ve had the power to have a consequence free existence all along!  I just had to look inside myself, and see my Caucasian DNA, look inside my pants and see my penis, and just seize it as my birthright (the power, not my penis).  This is embarrassing for me, since I always make fun of people who use the terms “white privilege” or “male privilege.”  But, I’ll take a little embarrassment in exchange for magic white dude power.

Christian Metal Band Stryper to Celebrate 30 Years at Hard Rock Vinyl

0

Iconic rock band Stryper will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their multi-platinum album To Hell with the Devil this fall with a special appearance at the Hard Rock Vinyl on October 21st, 2016. Featuring all four original members and complete with the original yellow and black costumes, they will blast Las Vegas with their Metal Christian Music. The GRAMMY-nominated To Hell with the Devil is the band’s third studio album and the first Christian metal album to achieve platinum status.

Lead singer and Ted Cruz look-alike Michael Sweet has pushed back against criticism of the rapid-fire pace at which he is releasing new music. He tells BigMusicGeek.com in a new interview: “It’s funny, ya know? We keep putting out albums because right now we’re very passionate about it. Right now, those ideas just keep coming and as long as they keep coming, we’ll keep doing it.”

He continued: “I read a moronic statement by someone on Blabbermouth recently that said, ‘What’s the point? Why do they do it? Why do they put out so many albums?’ That’s probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard anybody say. We do it because we love it and we do it because we still enjoy it.

“When I read interviews from bands who make these ridiculously silly comments where they say, ‘It’s not worth it anymore,’ man, you’re in it for the wrong reasons, buddy… What happened to doing it for the love of it and just the sheer passion of it? What happened to that, man? Where is it at? I just don’t understand it.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Accused of Ripping Off Local Jewelry Store

0

Floyd Mayweather Jr., the boxing champion who may or may not be permanently retired has been accused of not paying for a necklace he took from a local Vegas jeweler.

Family owned “The Jewelers Inc” accuses in court filings that Mayweather paid $1 million when he bought the $3 million necklace consisting of 72 round-cut diamonds in September 2015, and that he made six subsequent $100,000 payments.

However, the lawsuit claims that he stopped payment on the Jewelry in May and refused to pay anymore payments.

The Jewelers Inc is a well-known local store opened in 1976, owned by Mordechai and Vicki Yerushalmi and has had many boxing legends over the years buy their jewelry. Icons like Larry Holmes to Mike Tyson are regularly of the store. Even Elvis was known to buy Jewelry from the Yerushalmis.

A person who answered the phone at The Jewelers of Las Vegas told PaceVegas that Mayweather refused their phone calls and despite repeated requests gave no reason for not paying for the jewelry.

They want the $1.4 million plus interest, damages for unjust enrichment, breach of agreement and bad faith, attorney’s fees and legal.     Mayweather, 39, who often refers to himself as the “Money Man,” has an estimated net worth of $400 million and in 2015 topped Forbes’ annual list of the world’s highest-paid athletes, with $300 million in earnings that year.

No one from Mayweather’s company has been available to speak on the lawsuit.

No You Don’t Have To Worry About Being Sued for Yelp Reviews

0

Fox5 Vegas had on their site a really bad story claiming that one can be sued for a bad reviews they leave on Yelp and other places. According to the story, which was spread throughout Vegas, the first Amendment “doesn’t protect you” from leaving bad reviews. This scared a lot of Yelpers in Vegas and reviewers who were concerned about their liability for leaving a bad review.

We were corrected by a Fox5 Anchor who told us that the story was originally from CBS5 in Phoenix and posted to their website. Was not about Las Vegas, although many people incorrectly shared as such.

The problem is that they didn’t do a lot of actual research and ignored the law in Nevada. According to Marc Randazza, one of the leading attorneys in first amendments completely disagreed and told PaceVegas that, “A Journalist’s job should be to inform, not make people dumber. This piece is really unfortunately the kind that makes people dumber. It is a common misconception that the First Amendment does not apply to private lawsuits. That was roundly rejected in New York Times v. Sullivan. With respect to these “non disparagement” clauses in contracts, they never hold up. There was an organization called “medical justice” for example, that was encouraging doctors and dentists to put those in their treatment agreements. Gone. Roca Labs (do some research on them) tried to make every one of its customers subject to such an agreement. Guess what? Not only have they never won, but the Federal Trade Commission is prosecuting them now, in part, because of these clauses.”

To explain simply:

1) First, Nevada has Anti-Slapp Laws which mean that anyone trying to sue you might have to face a hearing to prove they aren’t trying to use the courts to prevent free speech. If they lose, they can face stiff penalties and have to pay for YOUR attorney. Randazza has already successfully defended people already.
2) New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964), was a landmark United States Supreme Court case that established the actual malice standard, which has to be met before press reports about public officials can be considered to be defamation and libel; and hence allowed free reporting of the civil rights campaigns. Has been used to defend many libel and defamation suits.
3) In the case of Roca Labs v. PissedConsumer, Roca Labs tried to prevent publishing of bad reviews based on a part of the agreement that didn’t allow bad reviews of “disparaging comments.” Even the FTC agreed this was a huge issue, and sued Roca Labs over this practice.

Randazza told us that the story was “egregiously inaccurate because we are in Nevada. Nevada has the strongest anti-slapp statute in the country, and it stands squarely in the way of anyone suing over this kind of thing.”
