Tourists Thought Bellagio Fire was Part of Fountain Show

0

Tourists watched in glee the fire dancing on top of the Bellagio and even a few applauded the new part of the show. Unfortunately, it wasn’t part of the show, and according to the the Associated Press, they only “realized something was wrong when plastic-smelling smoke began billowing and police rushed to evacuate shop employees. Fire engines arrived and melting building material began dripping fireballs toward the fountain lake, he said.”

Assistant Fire Chief Larry D. Haydu said in a statement that the location of the fire made access difficult but it was knocked down in under an hour.

According to KNTV: “A spokesperson for the fire department said during a media briefing that the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. However, investigators are looking at the electrical and lighting systems. The fire department is estimating damage between $400,000 and $500,000. A contributing factor to this estimation is the difficulty of accessing the location where the damage occurred.”

“We are done with this show, and our next move is undecided,” Rudolph told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“We are still talking with Caesars Entertainment and other interested parties in Las Vegas,” he added.

Vegan Impossible Burger To Be Featured Wynn in Las Vegas at Andrea’s

0

The Impossible Burger will debut this week in Las Vegas at Andrea’s, the award-winning fine dining restaurant at Wynn Las Vegas.

Beginning tomorrow, Impossible Foods’ plant-based burger will be available exclusively on Andrea’s menu and featured in three unique dishes created by Executive Chef Joseph Elevado. Andrea’s is the first restaurant to serve the Impossible Burger outside of New York and California. The Impossible Burger will also debut soon at the resort’s Country Club – A New American Steakhouse.

The Impossible Burger is the world’s only burger that looks, handles, smells, cooks and tastes like ground beef from cows, but is made entirely from plants, with a much smaller environmental footprint than meat from animals.

“People always ask us when the Impossible Burger will come to their hometowns,” said Pat Brown, CEO and founder of Impossible Foods. “We want the Impossible Burger to be everywhere–and until then, we’re excited to bring it to the culinary program at Wynn. Las Vegas gets 40 million tourists per year, so people from around the world can try it.”

Experience the Impossible Three Ways

Winner of the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Award, Andrea’s has become America’s premier example of “vibe dining” – a contemporary hot spot equally prized for its food, service, cocktails and eclectic atmosphere that embraces a more fluid and less formatted style of dining than the traditional three-course model. Helmed by Chef Elevado, Andrea’s features shared plates of Asian-inspired specialties, ocean-fresh sushi, rotating seasonal sides and other delicacies.

“Andrea’s is the first restaurant to introduce the Impossible Burger to Las Vegas, and I’m excited to share my take on it,” Executive Chef Joseph Elevado said. “The three dishes we’ve created showcase both the product and the restaurant’s elevated approach toward innovation.”

Available nightly, Chef Elevado’s menu will feature three specialty dishes including Thai Crispy Rice Cups, made with Impossible Burger, mint, cilantro, chili, onion, ginger and peanuts; Impossible Burgers, three sizzling sliders served with frisée, kimchee, pickles, kalbi and kochujang aioli; and Ma Po Tofu, a unique take on meatballs made with Impossible Burger, chili paste, shiitake mushrooms and green onion.

Vegas to Launch Heroin Needle Vending Machine

0

The Southern Nevada Health District Along with the Nevada AIDS Research and Education Society and Trac-B exchange have developed a machine that dispenses clean needles and other IV drug equipment. The idea is to make clean needles and other gear available to reduce the spread of blood borne infections among drug users who would otherwise share the injection rigs.

The machines, which resemble those that dispense snacks, will distribute cardboard boxes containing clean syringes and disposal containers for used needles. They will also offer kits for wound cleaning and safe sex.

Users will have to register first to receive a swipe card and unique identification number that they can use to receive up to two kits per week.

Machines will be available by the end of May at two health clinics.

“This is a harm reduction approach,” says  Chelisi Cheatom of Trac-B exchange. “So people are already engaging in these behaviors and anytime someone is engaging in a behavior that can cause them potential health side effects we want to encourage them to reduce their risk of harm by providing syringes as well as other clean instruments that they can use reducing them sharing any item as well as reduce of reusing.”

One in 10 HIV diagnoses occur in IV drug users.

The people behind this say providing free clean needles will reduce the temptation to spread infection by sharing dirty needles.

These vending machines also dispense wound care and safe sex kits.

The three machines will be located in downtown Las Vegas, away from the tourist Strip.

Has Sports Handicapper “Vegas Dave” Oancea Skipped Town to Avoid Charges?

0

Bad news for Dave Oancea, the well-known sports bettor handicapper, and clubber. He has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for using false Social Security numbers while betting at local Casinos.

Federal Prosecutors, working with the IRS, discovered that local casinos filed over 137 fake currency transaction reports, because of him using other people’s social security numbers without permission.

According to the indictment, Oancea is charged with nine counts of misuse of a Social Security number and 10 counts of causing a domestic institution to file false reports.

Oancea is well-known for futures bets he’s hit on in the past, including a $2.5 million haul on the Kansas City Royals’ World Series win in 2015 and a $2.3 million payout for the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl win a few months later.

He took home $2 million earlier this year when the Falcons won the NFC crown, but missed out on a $5 million payout he would’ve received had they won the Super Bowl.

He currently is not returning calls, and is “out of town” and is not returning soon, leading some to believe that he has skipped the Country and will not be returning to face charges.

He also is well known in club circles, spending tens of thousands of dollars a night in different clubs, women, and according to a local club, cocaine. He has been banned from the popular club “Hyde” in Bellagio after security found him giving cocaine to another person.

He also struck out a few years ago on Millionaire Matchmaker, when he walked off the show.

“I was at rock bottom a few years ago,” he said in 2015. “My parents weren’t proud of me. I wasn’t proud of me, either. I’d lost their savings, but they never stopped believing in me.”

Well, I am not sure they are still proud of you. Sorry… Son.

Free Parking on Las Vegas Strip Does Exist (Find Out Where!)

3

Damn son, you’re going to have to pay a load more for parking at MGM as we first reported a few weeks ago. It’s going up substantially, as high as 50% in some places, only a year after first instituting this strange charge. For self parking at MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Delano and New York, New York, instead of getting up to four subsequent hours at $7, only the first two will be charged at that rate. After that, the next two hours jumps to $10. Beyond four hours, it climbs an extra two bucks to $12. Prices for self parking are also jumping at Aria, Bellagio and Vdara under the same tiered system. Those rates are now $7, $12 and then $15.

Caesars Entertainment, which owns seven properties on The Strip, recently began charging at The Linq, Bally’s, Paris, The Flamingo and Caesars Palace. Next week, it will add The Cromwell and Harrah’s to the pay-to-park list.

However, maybe you still want to park for free and walk around? Yep, there are tons of places in Las Vegas that are still available for anyone to park for free, enjoy their stay and do whatever they want.  We thought we’d give a huge shout out to those places, and perhaps a little extra traffic for the love they are showing us locals and visitors.

You can still park for free at the following casinos:
SLS Las Vegas
Treasure Island
The Venetian / Palazzo

Interestingly enough, you can also park next door to the same places that are charging if you want to be creative. The Fashion Show Mall, the Shops at Crystals and the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay all offer free parking. Which means you can park there, and just use the casino areas if you want, without paying the ridiculous pricing strategy.

First E-Sports Arena to be Launched in Vegas

0

(With Reporting from the AP) Gone are the days where Gamers are stuck in their Mom’s basement in their underwear, while eating Cheetos.

MGM Resorts International on Tuesday announced plans for the arena that will feature a competition stage, LED video wall, daily gaming stations, food and drink and a streaming and television-quality production studio. Work on the venue will begin in early June with the goal of opening in early 2018.

Momentum, which utilized Twitch’s Research Power Group to poll more than 2,600 gamers across the U.S., U.K., and Japan, found that 53 percent of respondents think people will spend more time watching and playing games than watching and playing traditional sports within the next five years.

“We’ve closely watched the growth and excitement around esports, and we are always looking for new amenities for our Vegas customers,” Niklas Rytterstrom, general manager of Luxor, said. He told The Associated Press that the decision to nix the LAX nightclub was not because of its performance, but instead, it was motivated by the desire to offer customers “something really different.”

This will be the second esports arena in Sin City. The first one began hosting gamers in March in downtown Las Vegas. The arenas are part of a trend that the casino industry hopes will attract the millennial crowd.

The announcement from MGM comes on the heels of a report showing that a third of Las Vegas’ nearly 43 million tourists last year were millennials — those between 18 to 35 — up from less than a quarter in 2015.

Financial institutions are starting to take notice. Goldman Sachs valued eSports at $500 million in 2016 and expects the market will grow at 22% annually compounded over the next three years into a more than $1 billion opportunity.

And industry statistics are already backing this valuation and demonstrating the potential for massive earnings. To illustrate the market value, market growth, and potential earnings for eSports, consider Swedish media company Modern Times Group’s $87 million acquisition of Turtle Entertainment, the holding company for ESL. YouTube has made its biggest eSports investment to date by signing a multiyear broadcasting deal with Faceit to stream the latter’s Esports Championship Series. And the NBA will launch its own eSports league in 2018.

The arena at Luxor will have the capacity to host 1,000 people at a time. It will have areas for people 21 and older, and others open for a crowd 16 and up.

MGM has partnered with Allied Esports to develop the facility. The company’s network of esports venues includes facilities in China, Europe and North America.

Crazy Inmate Escapes Psychiatric Hospital

0

Jay Cantrell, a 51-year old inmate who was spending time at Muri Stein Hospital escaped through a window after security guards were caught sleeping on the job.

Nevada Corrections Department spokesperson Brooke Keast says he had been in the hospital since March undergoing evaluations for an upcoming trial.

Cantrell was previously being held at High State Desert State Prison.

He is 6 feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. He weighs 185 pounds. Officials say he was last seen wearing a navy blue pants, a black and white Adidas shirt and black shoes. Cantrell has a tattoo of a clown on his left shoulder.

He had previously filed complaints against the Nevada Corrections Department, claiming they had violated his civil rights. That suit was dismissed in 2011.

Pervy Las Vegas School Coach and EOS Instructor Arrested After Wife Finds Dirty Photos

0

Michael Barnson, an unpaid volunteer wrestling coach at the CCSD Highschool Cimarron-Memorial High School was arrested after his very upset wife turned him into the police. According to police reports, she was searching his phone as he had a more than slight problem with cheating, and found some really dirty photos of him with the student.

The student, unnamed because of her age, was a member of the girl’s wrestling team, and according to sources, he had “close contact” with more than a few girls as part of the wrestling program.

He is also an instructor at EOS Fitness Southwest according to his Facebook profile.

Parents of course, didn’t know that he was engaging in “nude wrestling” with one of the students.

Why the CCSD would allow someone to “volunteer” to work with highschool girls hasn’t been answered, but it seems that he had a long term sexual relationship with the student. He has already admitted to the police this, and despite her being 17 years old, he is being charged because he was in a “teacher-student” relationship with her.

This is the second arrest in a week of a coach at CCSD school of a “volunteer coach” who seemed to be doing more than just instructing female students. Brian Theophil, 23, who was helping as an assistant coach volunteering at Silverado High School told police he had sex with a female student after developing a friendship just this past week.

This is part of a growing list of arrests of teachers and coaches at CCSD, while the administration of CCSD refuses to address the issues.
