PR BS: OpenTable’s Hottest Vegas Restaurants

0

OpenTable, the restaurant reservation system used to fill empty seats by many restaurants in Las Vegas, announced yesterday their hottest 100 restaurants in America, with three only in Las Vegas. The 100 “hottest” was created from the reviews of 20,000 restaurants from across the country, compiled by editors using some secret formula, and then released to the public.

There are a lot of amazing restaurants that deserve to be on the list, some of the best most interesting restaurants in Towns all over America. Then there is the Vegas list, which while having three solid restaurant venues, is curiously short and makes no sense whatsoever.

I’m calling this list “PR BS” or “Public Relations Bull Shit.”

The Three Restaurants chosen by the owners of opentable?

Rose.Rabbit.Lie at Cosmopolitan
STK – The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
Tao Resaurant and Nightclub

[supsystic-gallery id=’13’ position=’center’]

Interestingly enough, the some of the other STK and TAO Locations in other cities were also included.

STK and TAO definitely need to be on some lists, that is not denied. STK is one of the hottest places in Vegas, consistently good food, and an amazing, amazing wait staff that is the envy of any restaurant. Tao and Tao Group are one of my favorite companies in the world. They hire internally, highly innovative, and more importantly, wildly profitable. It’s one of the few club-based companies in Vegas I’d ever considering working for.

However, there are tons of amazing other choices that are some of the hottest restaurants in the US, almost impossible to get reservations for, constantly booked. So why did all these restaurants get on the list?

They all use OpenTable as their primary booking system on their website. If you go to the STK website on the Cosmopolitan, the Reserve a Table is automatically sent to Opentable. (Feel free to make a reservation, it’s a great restaurant. Same with Tao)

These aren’t the hottest restaurants in America.

These are the best customers of OpenTable.

While I don’t doubt they deserve to be on almost any list of amazing places in Vegas – and they are both places I enjoy, this list is simply another version of Pay-for-Play.

And here’s the list. Don’t be surprised if you go WTF?

Wayne Newton to Return to Las Vegas Strip

1

The rumors have been confirmed by the legendary Robin Leach that the even more legendary Wayne Newton will be coming back to the Las Vegas Strip. Leach, known for his unusual insight into the entertainment industry of Vegas, claims now he can “officially confirm” the rumor as being true, that Caear’s Entertainment has indeed signed Newton for a contract.

According to Leach:

I’m reliably told that most of the show will be storytelling of Vintage Vegas days, but longtime Las Vegas resident Wayne also will sing two songs despite lingering throat problems from years gone by.

Newton last played on the strip in October of 2009 for a limited six month run at the Tropicana.

Newton, once one of the top paid performers on the Strip hasn’t had had success in the last decade or so. Since 2005 he has been involved in a series of legal and financial troubles including owing the IRS $1.8 million in taxes, not paying a car lease and having his house sold at auction: which was turned into a Newton memorabilia museum that he was allowed to live in.

Personally, this should be an amazingly interesting show that I know I am going to attend. Just hearing the stories, backstories and memories will make it worth while. But he’s going to sing? Something I’ve never heard personally live.

Why is Blue Ribbon Sushi Closing?

0

Blue Ribbon sushi, one of the first restaurants to grace the Cosmopolitan will be closing in the near future, most likely after the summer. This comes not far after the announcement of Zuma, from London taking over the space across from Blue Ribbon, competing and offering “contemporary Japanese cuisine.”

An insider with the company told us that the Bromberg brothers, who own the space, were not happy about the announcement initially, but since they have been experimenting with other types of restaurants including the Brooklyn Bowl and Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken, they were open to exploring another restaurant possibility.

We reached out to their PR company, which was unable to make any additional comments about the closure.

Cosmopolitan quickly put out a statement, to make sure it was clear that the resort still enjoyed their relationship with the Brombergs:

Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas are working together to develop an exciting new concept in the restaurant’s current location. The venue will temporarily close for these changes in late 2016 and expects to make more information available in the coming months. Blue Ribbon has seen great success since the opening of the resort and everyone involved looks forward to strengthening the partnership even further.

What will be in that space hasn’t been announced, but perhaps Fried Chicken is in Store for Cosmo?

Senior Frogs Saved from Fire by Self-Extinguishing Technology

0

Vegas officials say no one was hurt in a small kitchen fire at a restaurant at the Treasure Island casino. Casino spokeswoman Michelle Knoll said the grease fire in the Senor Frog’s Restaurant and Bar started shortly after 10 a.m. on a stove that was preparing food. The kitchen area has self-extinguishing technology that contained the flare immediately.

The fire did sound the alarms, which prompted a large fire department response. The Clark County Fire Department said the flame above the fryer caused smoke and the restaurant was evacuated

Senior Frogs is typically not open until the afternoon but it was operating early Friday for customers viewing the NCAA basketball tournament.

BLT Burger Re-Opens Sans Dirty Dishes

0

If you didn’t know, BLT Burger was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District aka “Health Inspectors-Police,” this past week for some nasty stuff found in their kitchen. While no one was eating “Cockroach Surprise,” there was some pretty nasty things found by inspectors during their investigation.

Despite being told of the problems in a previous visit, BLT’s management didn’t seem to take the problems seriously. Here’s a nice list of everything that they found:

– Food not cooled property (in danger zone) including raw lobster, tuna, and chicken.
– Produce not being washed before service.
– Old dried food in meat slicer
– Dishes not washed/sanitized properly
– Ready to Eat food unprotected from contamination
– Employees eating parsley with bare hands

BLT Burger hasn’t wanted to speak to anyone about this incident, nor has their parent company. Why? Because it’s embarrassing and they want this to go away.

Especially that they eat parsley. Who eats parsley?

Lawsuit: Jon Taffer Not Into Young Asian Men

0

Legendary “Bar Rescue” Host Jon Taffer has been hit with a strange lawsuit from a former employee, that claims, among other things, that he prefers young, sexy women instead of young Asian men.

The lawsuit, filed in the district court here Las Vegas, seems to state that one Tsang Han Wang, an “Asian-American in his late 20’s” was fired from a job working for Taffer, because he wasn’t sexy or female enough.

Taffer enjoys being surrounded by women, and acts like a bachelor despite being married,” the suit reads. “He has spoken publicly on methods of picking up girls from bars and there are multiple pictures of Taffer on social media with him surrounding by [sic] his female employees.”

According to the lawsuit, Taffer hired him in 2015, and after hiring some other women, started assigning duties to the Wang that he was not trained for – purposely, in order that he might fail, and then get fired. The lawsuit claims that Wang and another male employee in marketing were both fired, after being given a “30 day action plan” that was clearly set-up for them to fail.

Of course, the lawsuit doesn’t address why Taffer didn’t notice Mr. Wang was an Asian male from the start.

The other employee hasn’t filed a lawsuit.

SLS Plans to Kick Out Umami Burger

0

If the rumors are correct, the Las Vegas outlet of the delicious LA Burger Joint, Umami Burger, may be getting set to close in Las Vegas less than two years after opening. An employee contacted us yesterday and informed us that their manager had already told them to start investigating looking at other jobs, as they were told they may be kicked out from their current spot before the end of the year.

This isn’t surprise, as the Vegas SLS is looking to rid itself of any connection of the SBE Brand restaurants and clubs. It was just announced this week officially that Ku Noodle was also closing.

This is just another art of the enormous scandal that has been the SLS. In the last year, the Casino was denied a gaming license based on the founder of SBE, Sam Nazarian’s reported current cocaine use and connection to unsavory criminals.

The Miami version of Umame Burger failed to impress Floridians and closed in 2014
