Bradley Manchester Makes Oyster Bar in Hard Rock Lots of Fun

The Chef and I

Honestly, when I heard that the Hard Rock was going to open an Oyster Bar, I wasn’t that excited. I saw another half-assed, boring oyster seafood restaurant, with staples like soggy fish and chips and overpriced oysters that most customers only ate because they heard it might give them a larger erection. Still, when Chef Bradley Manchester, former of downtown’s Glutton invited me to try the the restaurant, my interest perked up a bit more and I dragged myself down there to see what they were doing.

Boy, am I glad that I tried it out

First of all, Chef Manchester is a fun guy. Despite just losing his own restaurant, he seemed excited about doing a new menu at a new place, and really couldn’t stop talking about the food. No burn out, no melancholy, just a really happy chef that loves whats he does.

Franky, I don’t blame him: He’s managed to make a menu that reminds me of his closed restaurant a bit, but also adds a little bit of needed rock and roll for the location.

Calamari Fries

We started with the calamari fries, which was one of the dishes he brought over from Glutton. It was one of those dishes you think to yourself, “I would just come here again just for this.” They were perfectly fried, tender inside, and the spicy sriracho mayo was made for more than just dipping. Even though it was the first dish, I ate most of it, while my date starred at me, reconsidering why she was out with a pig such as I.

Next we had the amazing four ahi tuna tacos, with custom made shells and deliciously matched yuzu guacamole that made me want to order more immediately. The light shells made in house were perfect, just giving enough texture and utility, but allowing the flavor to melt through.

We then tried the shrimp and grits, a dish that I usually avoid on any menu because it’s usually an afterthought, and frankly most chefs aren’t really that kind to grits. In this case, the cheddar heese and andouille sausage was a creative compliment that made my date want to eat the entire dish up herself.

Everything that came out, including the normally boring linguine and clams had a creative twist to it that made the food sexy, but frankly, a bit on the kinky fun side, not unlike the hotel itself.  Not unlike that first time you had way too much fireball with a bartender at the HRH and ended up naked tied up to a chair with Sriracha on your nipples. Manchester, and his really amazing staff are an awesome match to what will be a centerpiece of the hotel for years to come.

North Las Vegas Police to Investigate LVMPD for Running Over Woman

0

An investigation into why a LVMPD officer ran over a pedestrian will be conducted outside the department by the North Las Vegas Police Department, according to the NLVMP information officer Aaron Patty.

The woman was hit by the Ford Explorer police SUV shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday as she crossed a busy street near Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall. She died later at a hospital.

Authorities did not immediately disclose her name or identify the two officers in the patrol vehicle.

The police vehicle was not responding to an emergency call when the accident happened, and the woman was not in a crosswalk, Patty said.

It was one of two fatal crashes in the same area that happened at about the same time.

Authorities had not identified the woman Monday because authorities were still trying to contact her relatives.

Robert Irvine to Open “Public House” Despite Two Other Restaurants with Same Name

0

We’ve been patiently waiting for the newest invention of ultra buff Chef Robert Irvine since he jumped off the Tropicana last year. He’s kept the name under wraps, but now we know that the newest name for his restaurant is the extremely boring “Public House.”

This joins two other severely underwhelming restaurants of the same exact name in Las Vegas, one in the Venetian and another in the Luxor Casino.

Accoriding to interviews, he is going to be “on site” more than most celebrity chefs, and will be making a ecletic menu that will impress guests with several unique dishes that you can’t get anywhere else – despite the overused name.

However there have been rumors that Public House in the Venetian is looking to get out of its lease: it’s not exactly been doing well, and is usually quite empty. They have zero PR and Marketing going on, and despite an amazing location and decent idea, they have not shown up in the media in years, leaving most in the industry believing they’ve “given up.” You can almost always get a table, even during the most busy of conventions.

Still, why chose a name that will only lead to brand confusion?

NFL Players Already Trouble for Vegas Casino Event

0

Despite the Raiders moving to Vegas, the NFL still doesn’t allow players to really do much of anything when it comes to Casinos. Signaling what could be a lot more problems to come, the NFL is investigating an arm wrestling event that took place at a Las Vegas casino featuring numerous current and former players.

The Pro Football Arm Wrestling Championship, held April 5-9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, featured over 30 players with NFL ties. Current players are prohibited from making promotional appearances at casinos or gambling venues, and could face fines for doing so.

“Had we been asked in advance if this was acceptable, we would have indicated that it was in direct violation of the gambling policy,” NFL vice president of communications Joe Lockhart told Jarrett Bell of USA Today Sports. “No one sought pre-approval.”

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, Miami Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills, San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman, and Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King were all involved in the event. Currently retired running back Marshawn Lynch was also involved.

LVMPD Police Officers Runs over Woman after Another Crash

0

While investigating another crash, a LVMPD Police Officer seemingly didn’t see a woman crossing the road and ran her over, killing her.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday near the Sam’s Town hotel-casino in the southeastern part of the city.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed the death but isn’t yet releasing her identity.

Police haven’t released information about the crash involving their marked squad car.

Crazy Killer Bees Attack People in Vegas

0

It’s like Jaws, except with bees. Authorities say a swarm of bees in Las Vegas sent two people to the hospital and then killed a dog.

Several ambulances responded to the scene and firefighters had to wear protective clothing to assist, authorities said.

Some have speculated that the swarms are Africanized bees.

Officials say two people were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries and one person was treated on the scene.

The fire department says a dog that was outside at the time of the attack died at the scene.

Authorities said the scene was considered an active swarm area as of 7:30 p.m. Friday and were warning people to stay inside and keep their windows shut.

If you come under attack by a swarm, here are some tips from the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

1. Run away. Do not stop to help others. However, small children and the disabled may need some assistance.

2. As you are running, pull your shirt up over your head to protect your face, but make sure it does not slow your progress.

3. Continue to run. Do not stop running until you reach shelter, such as a vehicle or building. A few bees may follow you indoors. However, if you run to a well-lit area, the bees will tend to become confused and fly to windows. Do not jump into water! The bees will wait for you to come up for air. If you are trapped for some reason, cover up with blankets, sleeping bags, clothes, or whatever else is immediately available.

4. Do not swat at the bees or flail your arms. Bees are attracted to movement and crushed bees emit a smell that will attract more bees.

5. Once you have reached shelter or have outrun the bees, remove all stingers. When a honey bee stings, it leaves its stinger in the skin. This kills the honey bee so it can’t sting again, but it also means that venom continues to enter into the wound for a short time.

6. Do not pull stingers out with tweezers or your fingers. This will only squeeze more venom into the wound. Instead, scrape the stinger out sideways using your fingernail, the edge of a credit card, a dull knife blade or other straight-edged object.

7. If you see someone being attacked by bees, encourage them to run away or seek shelter. Do not attempt to rescue them yourself. Call 911 to report a serious stinging attack. The emergency response personnel in your area have probably been trained to handle bee attacks.

8. If you have been stung more than 15 times, or are feeling ill, or if you have any reason to believe you may be allergic to bee stings, seek medical attention immediately. The average person can safely tolerate 10 stings per pound of body weight. This means that although 500 stings can kill a child, the average adult could withstand more than 1100 stings.

Dangerous Wrong Way Traffic Around Vegas Elementary School Causes Concerns for Parents

0

Reedom Elementary is normally quite busy around the times students get to school, and when children are let out. There are occasional traffic jams, sometimes an upset parent or two. However recently, according to parents, the situation has turned dangerous and the administration of the school seemingly refusing to do anything about it.

Construction has turned one side of the school into two lanes, one lane where parents often park to let off their kids. However, now with the construction barriers that have been at the school for almost a week, it has required many cars to go into the wrong lane to get around traffic, causing a potential nightmare for students crossing the street and a danger to everyone.

One parent described the scene as “a madhouse” that had honking cars and parents yelling at each other.

You can clearly see that cars are blocking one of the lanes for traffic while letting kids out. In the distance a car starts to go the wrong way.

While we were in the area, two cars almost collided with our truck, going the wrong way. Honking and flashing lights while ignoring the children getting out of their parent’s car.

CCSD Police Officer almost hit by two cars going the wrong way. Eventually pulled over one of them.

We had called CCSD police the previous day and no one would comment about it, but after about 15 minutes, a CCSD police officer did show up and pulled over a car that was speeding the wrong way, and almost had a head on collision with the officer.

Robin Leach’s Hakkasan Criminal Investigation Column Deleted by LVRJ

0

In what I can only call “Attorney Beats Columnist into Submission,” the LVRJ has seemingly deleted an entire column “exposing” the connections of Hakkasan Group to money laundering.

The column alleged that Hakkasan was under current criminal investigation by the US Department of Justice.

Yes, despite a major criminal investigation into the former chairman and major investor, Leach’s column has completely disappeared off the Las Vegas Review Journal’s website, leaving people to believe that enormous pressure was put on their publisher to delete any record of this.  The column, which was HERE, is now completely gone but I was able to pull a copy of it.

Interestingly enough the column fails to mention that Jho Low, one of the billionaires involved with the scandal has been implicated as  being also involved with SBE.

The entire column has been screenshot in fair use, for you perusal. The reasons it was deleted is strange, since most of this information is already known and had been published in one way or another, in major papers and in this publication a year ago.

The most interesting part of the column is the claim that Hakkasan was FORCED to sell their company by MGM who would no longer do business with them: “When you read through all this information, one would logically come to the conclusion that MGM wanted Hakkasan to be merged with another MGM partner not tinged with a Justice Department investigation into money-laundering allegations.”

Vegas School Principals Accused of Ignoring Pervert Teachers

0

After many parents voiced concerns that Clark County School District in Las Vegas was not doing enough to handle misconduct cases of teachers, they have announced they will have a “round table discussion.”

Trustee Kevin Child has made it clear he “means business” and is not happy with the continued problems, and the fact that many administrators would ignore complaints. It is alleged that principals of several schools have ignored complaints, even ripping them up, in order to make their schools look better – and don’t take this issue seriously.

One parent, Chad Jensen expressed disgust in the school district, noting that complaints had been made before on one teacher, who then started “flirting” with his daughter.

The Round Table which will include parents, teachers and staff is scheduled for sometime in June.

Crazy Naked Rapist Attacks Woman at Delano Hotel Spa

0

LVMPD has caught a rapist after his potential victim got free from him, at the Delano Hotel. Jared Deflurin, 33 years old is currently sitting in jail after being charged with kidnapping and attempted sexual assault.

He went into the women’s restroom at the Bathhouse Spa and Gym, completely naked, and attacked a currently unnamed woman, and put her in a chokehold, attempting to force her to the ground.

The unfortunate incident raises some questions on how a naked man was able to enter, unseen the restrooms and force himself on someone. If it wasn’t for those who heard her screen to help her, she might have been seriously injured or killed.
