Roger Fraley Arrested for Fires at Trump Las Vegas, Not Politically Motivated

0

Roger Fraley was arrested for first degree arson and burgerly after two fires we lit purposefully at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

Firefighters had responded to the hotel after smoke detectors showed a fire in a hallway on the 17th floor, and another in the women’s restroom on the pool deck of the property.

The Clark County Fire Department released a statement saying toasters, towels and various other materials were used to ignite the fires at the hotel bearing President Donald Trump’s name.

Yesterday at 3:33am, he wrote on his Facebook “Lord Jesus save me.

Nothing on his Facebook showed that he was at all anti-Trump, but there were several posts referring to himself as “Yahweh,” a name of God.

The police have also suggested that the attack was not politically motivated.

Aaron Jones, 13 had been missing for months and his father Paul Jones hadn’t reported him missing. Worried that the worst had happened, his family went looking, passing out fliers starting this past Monday. After speaking to people, where he was last seen, they searched a desert area and found the body.

Covered in plastic material, the body was severely decomposed and hidden under small boulders.

The father claims that he is not responsible, despite having not reported him missing – and being arrested on April 1th for abusing another one of his children.

The police said there had been custody issues, and that the rest of the family didn’t know he was missing since December.

The father is currently the main suspect in the killing of the boy.

When Can you Test Drive Honda Civic Type R in Vegas?

0

With less than two months away until it’s released in the United States, the new Honda Civic Type R has smashed the Nürburgring lap record for front-wheel-drive cars, clocking a 7min 43.8sec lap time from the circuit’s Bridge to Gantry sections.

This shaves a significant 5.41sec from the previous record holder, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S, and makes the new Type R 6.8sec faster around the ‘Ring than its predecessor.

The new lap record holder is described by Honda as being a development model with technical specifications representative of the final car. Like the production car, it uses a 316bhp and 295lb ft VTEC turbocharged 2.0-litre engine.

“We expect that the efficiency of this model’s engine…will provide U.S. customers with a great driving experience,” said Frederic Bernard, technology expert at Honda Europe. “And since this model has excellent stability and maneuverability, even when accelerating or turning, it is a very safe car in all driving conditions.”

We’ve got some good news; the 2017 Civic Type R is set to arrive at dealerships later this spring!

Nevada Ranked the Worst State of Children’s Health Care

0

A report released by WalletHub, a personal finance site with consumer credit and bank tools, has ranked Nevada dead last in health care for children. This is even less than Mississippi.

Their analysis compared all 50 states, and the District of Columbia using 28 different metrics including overall health, infant and child mortality rates, number of vaccinated children, cost health care and other factors. They calculated the overall scores for each state and the District of Columbia based on its weighted average across all metrics and used the resulting scores to construct our final ranking.

“We have a shortage of physicians and health care providers. In our medical school, it only has 230 kids in a class, in school. That’s 60 kids a year,” said Chief Operating Officer Brian Branman, University Medical Center.

Branman adds that most physicians stay in the community where they get their specialized training. But in Nevada, there aren’t many training programs for neurology, gastroenterology or cardiology. UMC says that leads to a drain of medical talent from the state.

“The real worry is the children. We’re seeing a vast increase in Type 2 diabetes, the adult onset type in the younger kids, particularly teenagers,” said Dr. Fred Toffel, Diabetes Treatment Center.

Not only are children not exercising enough, but there aren’t enough endocrinologists to treat those with diabetes in Nevada. Dr. Toffel says many of his patients can’t afford diabetes medication anymore.

Nevada was less than half as good as the top ranked state, Vermont.

The top 5 states are:
1. Vermont
2. Massachusetts
3. Connecticut
4. Iowa
5. New Hampshire

The bottom 5 states are:
47. Texas
48. Alaska
49. Arizona
50. Mississippi
51. Nevada

These Few Celebrate Confederate Memorial Day in Las Vegas

1

1Confederate Memorial Day, sometimes also called Confederate Heroes Day or Confederate Decoration Day, is not a federal holiday. Instead, it is celebrated in various states of the southeastern United States. State employees in Mississippi have today off to observe Confederate Memorial Day, those in Nevada have no such option legally.

In Georgia the day has been called “State Holiday” since 2015, when Confederate Memorial Day and Robert E. Lee’s birthday were struck from the state calendar. The state holiday list says the official holiday is April 26 but will be observed this year on Monday, April 24.

Confederate Memorial Day was established after the Civil War to remember the hundreds of thousands soldiers who died fighting for the South. Modern observation of Confederate Memorial Day is much the same as it was just after the end of the Civil War. It’s likely that far fewer people attend some of the events than they once did. In fact, many people who live in the southern states do not realize that Confederate Memorial Day exists. For those who know about the holiday it is an important part of the
calendar.

In Nevada there are two camps of the “Sons of Confederate Veterans,” an “independent organization that supports the protection and preservation of Confederate heritage.” They act as a pseudo-military, with commands, ranks and often wear grey civil war uniforms. Only those who can prove they are related to a member of the Confederate Army can join.

A new Southern Poverty Law Center report identifies “at least 1,500 symbols of the Confederacy”—monuments, statues, schools named after Jefferson Davis, etc.—in public spaces across the country. Contra the common argument that Confederate tributes are a celebration of ‘heritage” rather than white supremacy, the SPLC’s press release notes that “the creation of Confederate displays spiked at the beginning of the Jim Crow era and again in response to the civil rights movement.”

Georgia state representative Tommy Benton argues that not only is Confederate Memorial Day not racist  Benton, a Republican, argues the Civil War was not fought over slavery. Most troubling, however, is Benton’s assertion the Klu Klux Klan was “not so much a racist thing but a vigilante thing to keep law and order.”

Where Can you Buy NES Classic Edition in Las Vegas?

0

Nintendo has shipped the last batch of their NES Classic Edition retro gaming console to North America. As inventory dries up, fans are eager to snatch them up while they can. Today, Best Buy announced that they will give customers one of their last chances to buy the NES Classic!
Best Buy made the announcement via their official Twitter account. The electronics retailer will sell limited quantities tomorrow. They are also offering discounts on accessories. The console won’t be available online, but rather in stores only. This is smart on Best Buy’s part, as it will prevent resellers from ordering NES Classics in bulk from the comfort of their living rooms.

The NES Classic is a throwback to the hit Nintendo gaming system, originally released in 1983. The replica was released in November of 2016. It packs 30 classic games on board. These include iconic titles like Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Castlevania, and others.

Nintendo pretty much botched the NES Classic’s rollout, with shortages at stores all across the board. They have also discontinued the device for seemingly no good reason whatsoever. Demand remains high, despite these supply challenges. This, of course, might be explained by the rumours of the upcoming SNES Classic later this year. I wonder if this would eventually lead to a Nintendo 64 version. I was a PlayStation kid myself growing up, but that N64 would definitely be on my wish list.

Nevada Attorney General Notifies For-Profit College Students of Loan Cancelation

0

Earlier this month, Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt, along with attorneys general from 43 other states and the District of Columbia, announced that former Corinthian College students are eligible for federal student loan cancellation and a refund of payment previously made.  Schools operated by Corinthian Colleges, Inc. include: Everest Institute, Everest College, Everest University, Heald College and Wyotech.

Following careful regulatory scrutiny, for-profit Corinthian Colleges ceased operations in 2015, transferring some of its campuses to a non-profit institution called Zenith Education Group.

The U.S. Department of Education subsequently discovered that during its operations, Corinthian Colleges made numerous misrepresentations regarding post-graduation employment rates at Henderson, Nevada-based Everest College campus, and elsewhere across the nation.

“About 1,300 Nevadans who have not already applied can expect a letter from my office in the next couple of weeks explaining their eligibility for federal student loan cancellation,” said Laxalt.  “My Bureau of Consumer Protection will continue to fight for students who fall victim to institutions that misrepresent themselves, in an effort to help make Nevadan’s aware of their rights and options.”

According to a press release, the letters that will be sent out set-forth available relief to eligible students.  Lists of the affected campuses, programs and dates of enrollment are available at https://www.StudentAid.gov/ev-wy-findings and at https://www.StudentAid.gov/heald-findings. Those students that first enrolled in the identified campuses and programs during the specified time periods are eligible for streamlined discharge of their federal student loans.

Students that attended Corinthian Colleges and believe that they relied upon misrepresentations regarding employment prospects, the transferability of credits or other issues, may seek cancellation  using the Department of Education’s universal discharge application found at https://borrowerdischarge.ed.gov.

More information is available at https://studentaid.ed.gov/borrower-defense.

DUI Ignition Lock Bill Passes Senate for First Time Offenders

0

Bad news for those who enjoy getting behind the wheel drunk. A bill passed in the Nevada Senate on Friday would require all people arrested for drunken driving to install ignition interlock systems on their vehicles.

Senate Bill 259 is sponsored by Las Vegas Democrats Mark Manendo, and Assemblyman Richard Carrillo and it requires that the devices be installed for at least six months for anyone arrested for impaired driving, which also includes first-time offenders.

The devices are rented, not purchased, and cost about $2.50 a day — $75 a month. The bill would mandate reduction of that monthly fee for those who qualify as low income but need to drive to get to work. It doesn’t say who would pay the difference.

The interlock is a breathalyzer that prevents a vehicle from starting if it detects an alcohol level of 0.02 or greater. That’s one quarter of the legal limit.

Currently, judges can order the ignition interlock devices, but typically they only require them for people arrested with high blood-alcohol levels or repeat offenders.

SB-259 was approved 21-0 on Friday, April 21.

The bill will now move to the State Assembly.
