Why Should You Vote for Bob Beers?

0

I have followed Bob Beers’ career in politics for many years. I most admired his stance against the proposed publicly funded soccer stadium, which by most accounts would be a money-losing disaster. Bob not only spoke out against the stadium, but he spent his weekends collecting petition signatures against the stadium.

Bob is a CPA by trade. I admire his accounting background and feel that benefits me as a constituent ant taxpayer.

His opponent, Steve Seroka, is funded largely by a few attorneys who own homes at Queensridge. Those homeowners are upset because there is a closed golf course that is going to be developed into homesites. All purchasers knew, when they purchased, that this land could be developed, and now it finally is, and they are upset about it. Seroka and his supporters would rather the city buy the golf course for hundreds of millions of dollars – of my tax money. No way.

Steve Seroka has a long, honorable military career. I support our military, and am grateful for his service. However, for this position, I feel a CPA is preferable to military experience.

Finally, Bob Beers and Steve Seroka both advertise heavily on social media. When I challenged Seroka by commenting on one of his ads, he (or his team) responded by blocking me. Bob Beers, on the other hand, allows detractors to comment, and Bob will even give out his cell phone and invite the voters to call him to discuss their concerns.

Which politician do you prefer? One who blocks you for challenging him, or one who invites debate and wants to win you over?

Please note that I do not work for or represent the Beers campaign. I am simply a voter and a homeowner who has lived in the district where he is running for 20 years. I am proud to vote for him!

ISIS Terrorists Target Las Vegas for Possible Attack during Memorial Day Weekend

0

For the second time in a year, the city of Las Vegas has emerged as a potential terror target in an ISIS propaganda video.

KABC reports the recently released video calls for lone wolf attacks, and some of Las Vegas’ famous landmarks are displayed. The 44-minute propaganda video, which was released through Islamic State online channels, shows images of the Strip, as well as images from other potential western targets, such as New York and Washington, according to NBC News.

U.S. intelligence agencies discovered the new video on an ISIS website, and its message is that ISIS wants supporters to carry out attacks in the West.

Speaking from the Southern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center, Metro Police Capt. Christopher Darcy aimed to reassure the public that local, state and federal authorities are taking the threat of a possible attack here seriously and adjusting accordingly, considering the mass-casualty event in Manchester, England, on Monday and the Islamic State video discovered last week.

It’s the second time ISIS has targeted Las Vegas in its videos, the first being last June following the attack at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub.

Nevada lawmakers later passed the “more cops tax,” which pays for more than 60 additional officers to patrol the Vegas Strip.

SLS Casino to Be Sold, Change Names and Not Suck?

0

Is this the end of the SLS Casino? After a rocky start, poor revenue, loss of the founder, and pretty much almost dying, the SLS has been sold – and will most likely change names and directions.

Originally broken by Vital Vegas, the claim is now that Meruelo group will buy them. “Alex Meruelo’s company, Meruelo Group, has a number of assets, but the one most relevant to owning a casino on the Las Vegas Strip is Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada.”

The property has switched restaurants, closed the buffet and changed entertainment options, but their biggest problem is years away from being fixed.

The SLS opened in Aug. 2014. Stockbridge Capital and SBE Entertainment spent $415 million turning the old Sahara hotel and casino into something stylish and new.

Sam Nazarian, the driving force behind the SLS brand, gave up day-to-day operations of the hotel after flunking a drug test with the Gaming Control Board and admitted he paid millions of dollars in extortion money to a convicted felon.

Stockbridge Capital their current owner, said that they had an official press statement about the sale, and referred me to a contact who has not responded as of publishing.

Vegas Middle School had “Fight Club”

0

Over a dozen students have been suspended after a school administrator found them all involved in a “fight club” at a Tarkanian Middle School

The kids were reportedly also placing bets on who would win. Videos are and were being shared on Snapchat and Instagram.

On those social media sites, students organizing would ask classmates if he or she wanted to fight, and if they said yes, They would arrange it. They started organizing fights before and after school in a campus bathroom. The fights were filmed and bets were placed for as little as $5. One rule was no hits to the face, only body blows, so they could conceal the injuries and the flight club.

Parents say they had no idea this was going on. At least 18 kids have been suspended.

And it’s not just the ones fighting–also some recording or even watching the fights are in big trouble.

The school of about 1,700 students in grades 6 through 8 with about 70 teachers is part of the Clark County School District. Public School Review ranks it above-average compared with other Nevada schools, and it received a score of 9 out of 10 on GreatSchools.org.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are looking into possible criminal charges.

Ex-Gay Conversion Therapy Now Banned in Las Vegas and Nevada

0

Republican Governor Brian Sandoval signed Senate Bill 201 into law on Wednesday, having his state join California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York via executive action, Oregon, and Vermont.

Democratic State Senator David Parks, the legislator who sponsored SB 201, said in a statement that the law was “a major step forward in building a more equal and inclusive state.”

“Nevada has a long record of passing progressive legislation to protect the LGBTQ community with bipartisan support, and I want to thank Governor Sandoval for signing this critical legislation,” stated Parks, as quoted by the Las Vegas Review Journal.

“Conversion therapy has been disavowed by medical experts and is considered a non-effective method of treatment that can cause harm to an adolescent,” Sandoval said in a statement. “This law will help protect some of our state’s most vulnerable youth.”

The practice of therapy aimed at changing an individual’s sexual orientation or transgender status is considered ineffectual at best and harmful at worst. Major medical and psychological institutions, including American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, widely reject conversion therapy.

Often teenagers are forced into therapy, told they can become “straight again.” Conversion therapy sessions take place often daily, with illegal shock therapy treatments lasting approximately an hour, and aversion therapy lasting three.

“Conversion therapy causes serious harms,” NCLR Legal Director Shannon Minter . “In the short-term, queer youth who go through conversion therapy are being cheated of the opportunity to gain self-confidence and self-esteem, to get support from family members and other adults, and to have normal adolescent developmental experiences around friendship, dating, and other social experiences. In the long-term, the negative health consequences of being subjected to conversion therapy are extremely serious and can include substance abuse, dropping out of school, HIV infection, depression, and suicide attempts.”
