The owner of the famous pink building “702 Traffic” has been arrested after he allegedly used his car to strike a 88-Police Volunteer who was issuing him a parking citation.
According to LVMPD, on March 21, Mr. Helmick’s car was being ticketed for being illegally parked in a handicapped spot in the Distill parking lot bar. When the elderly volunteer, in uniform, 88-year old John Vasilchin was issuing the citation, the Helmick exited the bar and claimed that he was “a lawyer” and that he would beat the LVMPD in court.
While the report does not claim he drunk or impaired, it does claim he hit the volunteer and another car at least three times while trying to get out of the stop and drove away at a high rate of speed.
He was arrested on three counts of battery with a deadly weapon on an older person.
Helmick is not a licensed attorney, yet claims he is in the “legal business.”
However, the building his business is in says “Law Offices” on the front, which according to a local attorney could be illegal.
“If he’s holding himself as an attorney, or a law office, he had better have a bar license or it will seem to me, that he is breaking the law,” said Vegas attorney Marc Randazza. “You are not allowed to say you are in the ‘legal business’ if you are not an attorney. He should be prosecuted for the unlicensed practice of law.”
Mr. Helmick refused comment on Thursday.
