Only a few days after Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton dined at the restaurant, a video has been going around showing what seems to be worms living inside the taco. According to Kevin Sicairos, of Las Vegas Nevada, he went to the restaurant last week and found worms in his Tacos. He claims that he spoke to the manager of the restaurant, who they claim refused to address the situation and claimed that it “was normal” to find worms in their food as they were nothing more than “fruit worms.”
PaceVegas called Tacos El Gordo who said they were award of the situation but said that they do not comment on the health and hygiene of their facility. We contacted the Southern Nevada Health District for comment, but they were closed.
Unfortunately we could not examine the food to see what type of worm was in the taco, but there are more than a few worms and parasites that are unsafe to humans.
Many infections can be thwarted with proper hygiene – washing fruit and vegetables, including “ready-washed” lettuce, cooking meat properly and avoiding contamination from domestic or wild animals. A joint UN/WHO report said better farming and global food trade standards could also prevent parasites entering the food chain.
There are many forms of tapeworm, three of which can readily infect the brain. From a public health perspective, there’s one in particular to watch out for. “It’s mainly the pork tapeworm that’s the main brain one,” says Helena Helmby from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The pork species, known as Taenia Solium, can infect humans in two forms. The first is by eating undercooked pork from infected pigs, resulting in taeniasis — an adult worm residing in the intestine. The second, in the larval form, through contact with the feces of an infected pig or human, which can go on to infect many tissues. If the larval worm enters the nervous system, including the brain, it can result in a condition known as neurocysticercosis.
Looks like a standard baby cabbage worm that likes to eat green leaves. They are very common. Looks like an egg probably just made it past the lettuce rinse. Gross to find it in food, but nothing to be worried about. Tape worms don’t even look like what is seen in that video. Plus, it appears that he’s eating carne asada, not pork. http://i.imgur.com/wtzy9tP.jpg
