Beers, Burgers, Desserts Opens in Palace Station

0

Palace Station unveiled its new look and culinary offerings, bBd’s (Beers, Burgers, Desserts) has joined the lineup of new restaurants on the casino floor alongside Boathouse Asian Eatery and the newly reconceptualized Feast Buffet. The all-new restaurant brings an innovative approach to the neighborhood restaurant featuring a homage to America’s beloved burger and a focus on scratch cooking. Created by Chef Ralph Perrazzo, this New York-based restaurant brings a commitment to craftsmanship and honest cooking. It also marks a return to Las Vegas for Perrazzo who spent several years in progressive kitchen positions at several award-winning restaurants including Jean-Georges, Clio, and Bradley Ogden Restaurant at Caesars Palace, winner of the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant. bBd’s at Palace Station marks the chef’s much-anticipated return to Las Vegas.

At bBd’s, the hamburger comes first and foremost, using USDA certified prime beef that is never frozen and is hand-butchered and pattied in the restaurant’s fully visible butcher room. Guests can choose from three different cooking methods including the Steakhouse Burger (beef patty cooked over embers of Cherrywood and Canadian charcoal), Griddle Burger (thin patty of prime beef cooked on a hot griddle creating a crispy brown crust and savory center), and Steamed Burger (thin patty steamed over a slurry of chopped onions and fast food pickles). bBd’s has garnered praise for its burgers having won the Judges’ Choice Award at the 2015 New York City Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash. The menu also features a wide variety of bar favorites, reimagined using scratch ingredients as well as wood-fired custom cut steaks. bBd’s will also feature extensive vegan and vegetarian options, including the meatless Philly Cheese Fake, Falafel Burger and Vegan Gyro Taco.

Complementing the food program, bBd’s features an expertly curated craft beer program driven by a custom-designed high-tech draft system, a first for the Las Vegas valley. The perpetually rotating menu of bottles and 26 draught taps showcases rare and vintage beers, nitro and authentic cask beer (their New York location has received the prestigious UK Cask Marque Award), and both international and domestic sour beers. Rounding out the beverage program is a full bar, seasonal cocktails and a selection of esoteric wines.

Upon arrival to bBd’s, guests are welcomed by wooden Tudor-style arched doors flown in from a European cathedral, and then led through a hallway filled with eccentric art pieces and hand chosen by Chef Perrazzo himself – created by artists such as Amanda Stalter, Erik Henry Johnson, Lara Dann, and Buddy Nestor, to name a few. Before making their entrance into the restaurant, guests will be able to catch a sneak peek of butcher room from its window display, showcasing the freshness of all of the USDA prime beef, lamb, and Long Island duck served and every step of its preparation process.

The restaurant offers an open-style floor plan, complete with an open kitchen that spans the length of the restaurant, along with a bar to match featuring seating for up to 200 guests. From classic white marble décor mixed with a touch of gothic-inspired architecture, including two grand chandeliers, vaulted ceilings, and three floor-to-ceiling columns, bBd’s addition into Palace Station adds an unparalleled flair to the property and shines with Chef Perrazzo’s personal style.

While guests will come for the burgers or a rare gem craft beer, they will also be able to indulge in the ultimate handcrafted milkshakes featuring an all-natural house-made soft serve, custard-based shake served both boozy and non-alcoholic. The remainder of the dessert menu features American classics and original creations from Chef Perrazzo’s pastry chef career, such as the decadent Vlarhona Liquid Chocolate Cake, and The Gooey Cinnabomb with Coffee Ice Cream (house-made cinnamon roll covered in sweet, gooey cream cheese icing, topped off with house-made coffee ice cream).

Drawing from personal experiences, Chef Perrazzo brings styles from the East Coast, like the Maple Mayo Sauce, to add uniqueness and diverse flavors to bBd’s – perfect to match each guests’ taste buds. Some of bBd’s standout menu items include:

  • One lb Bavarian Soft Pretzel 15 x 11 inch soft pretzel, made from scratch, home-made Heffeweizen cheese sauce and spicy mustard
  • Bacon Cheeseburger Nachos chopped griddle burger patties, griddled onions, nacho cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, bbd’s nacho sauce, corn tortilla chips, bacon patty

Vegas Egyptian Restaurant Goes Vegan

0

Today, Las Vegas restaurant POTs—the only Egyptian eatery in the area—is switching to an all-vegan menu.

The restaurant, known for its Egyptian street food such as Koshari, Cauliflower Shawarma, and sweet Konafa Cups, opened eight months ago as a vegetarian restaurant but moved to eliminate the handful of dairy-based ingredients used in some dishes after feedback from the local vegan community. To go vegan, owner Iman Haggag replaced the tzatziki, labneh, and dairy milk options with vegan alternatives.

To test the new dairy-free options, Haggag hosted tasting events with astounding success.

“The overwhelming love and support from the vegan community here in Vegas made me feel that I should support this movement as much as I can,” Haggag said.

“The best way to do that was to make the switch and fully support a great way of living, and to present authentic flavor to the vegan community of Las Vegas.” The growing vegan scene in Las Vegas now includes more than 20 vegan restaurants, including a vegan hot dog cart, an all-vegan bar, and a vegan smoked barbeque restaurant.

Iman Haggag, owner of the popular spot, credits the local vegan community for a nudge to change the restaurant to all vegan. Although it was always the plan to go vegan, Hadid wasn’t sure how to replace items like the tzatiki … so she held PoP events to test the waters with astounding success.

POTS and Haggag have been featured internationally on LIVEKINDLY and highlighted as one of Las Vegas’s hidden vegan gems. The move to vegan helps elevate the Las Vegas vegan restaurant and the Las Vegas vegan dining scene even more.

They are located at 1745 S Rainbow Blvd suite a, Las Vegas, NV 89146 and online at https://potslv.com/

Among the eclectic menu items at the all new The Works Kitchen at GameWorks is the Frozen Brunch milkshake, created by Chef Tony Leitera. The Frozen Brunch is a vanilla milkshake topped with bacon, a Belgian waffle, maple syrup, powdered sugar and whipped cream

The Works Kitchen at GameWorks was imagined and created by Chef Tony Leitera who brings a 20-year culinary career to his new role as corporate executive chef. Prior to joining GameWorks in January 2018, Leitera collaborated with Guy Fieri on operating and expanding his branded locations.

At The Works Kitchen at GameWorks, guests can enjoy selections from a varied menu that takes a Modern American spin on bar classics while also featuring hearty specialties and healthy options. The upscale food offering incorporates a contemporary approach to traditional favorites across a large variety of appetizers, handhelds (specialty burgers and sandwiches), salads and desserts.

Menu creations span, among many others, The Works’ very own “Twists,” an array of Bavarian pretzels; hand-stretched artisanal pizzas; savory snacks, such as buffalo-fried cauliflower; spiced and seared yellow fin tuna sashimi; and dry-rubbed wings. Handheld specialties include the signature Works burger, a grilled cheese-stuffed 1.5-pound double burger, complemented with Sam Adams BBQ sauce and the notable plant-based Impossible™ Burger, a popular gourmet vegetarian option.

To top off the meal, there are several extraordinary, mouth-watering milkshakes, such as the Frozen Brunch, a vanilla milkshake which boasts bacon, a Belgian waffle and maple syrup; the Movie Theater, a chocolate milkshake complete with red-rope licorice, caramel popcorn, chocolate candy and whipped cream; or, the Unicorn, a rainbow sherbet milkshake with rock candy and cotton candy, topped with a sugar cone.

“The launch of The Works Kitchen at GameWorks is an exciting development for our entertainment brand. We are placing a strong emphasis on the food we offer our guests, and with our exciting restaurant concept, we are completing elevating their dining experience. We believe there is something for everyone, and our food-forward fare caters to all ages and tastes,” Leitera said.

“At GameWorks, guests can have a complete entertainment experience in which food plays a major role. With this distinctive restaurant concept we’ve created, GameWorks is fast-building a reputation as an entertainment and eSports destination, and stands to soon become recognized for our food as well. Currently, we serve thousands of meals weekly to guests frequenting our restaurants throughout the nation, and The Works Kitchen at GameWorks will now appeal to an even broader audience,” Leitera said.

GameWorks’ Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Philip N. Kaplan added: “We want our guests to enjoy a complete entertainment experience when they come to any of our GameWorks locations, which includes indulging in our restaurant, participating or watching eSports in our eSports Lounges, playing our wide variety of arcade games, and enjoying some of our specialty entertainment options, such as laser tag or bowling. The resurgence of our food offering will further differentiate GameWorks as The Works Kitchen at GameWorks takes food at entertainment concepts to a completely new level.”

Chef Tony Leitera began his culinary career training at Wolfgang Puck restaurants. He went on to open Cafe Deco in the Venetian Hotel & Casino in Macau, China, which features cuisines from around the world.

He also was a member of the corporate training and chef team at The Capital Grille Las Vegas before transitioning into the role of executive chef partner at The Capital Grille Indianapolis.

Chef Leitera worked with the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil stadium before being recruited back to his home town of Las Vegas to open Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen + Bar at the LINQ Hotel and Casino. Between 2014-2018, Leitera collaborated with Guy Fieri and his Knuckle Sandwich Culinary team to open other Guy Fieri-branded locations.

Jimmy Kimmel To Launch Comedy Club in Caesar’s

0

Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel has teamed up with Caesars Entertainment to open up his own comedy club in the city where he grew up, Las Vegas.

The simply named Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club will open in the spring of 2019 at the LINQ Promenade right on the Vegas strip near the High Roller observation wheel and Brooklyn Bowl. The 8,000-square-foot venue, which seats up to 300 guests, will have shows seven nights a week from both major comics and up-and-coming performers.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel said that he looks forward to building the comedy club from scratch and not just taking over a space that was formerly some other kind of business. The 50-year-old is going to be very involved with the club and will have a hand in all aspects — from the food and drink menus, to the décor (which will feature Kimmel memorabilia), to the comedians that will be booked to perform at the venue.

VitalVegas: Caesar’s Sale of Rio Almost Done

0

According to various reports including a tweet from Scott of Vital Vegas, Caesars is selling the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

The World Series of Poker has been hosted at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino just off the Las Vegas Strip since 2005, and for all its flaws, the location has served the world’s largest poker festival well for more than a decade. But according to recent tweets and rumors, Caesars isn’t planning to keep the WSOP there for much longer.

First reports about the potential sale of Rio date back to 2010, when it emerged from unnamed sources that the property’s then owner Harrah’s Entertainment was seeking a buyer for the off-Strip casino resort. News outlets also reported back then that the property had quite some suitors and some were valuing it at around $500 million.

One of the rumors is that it’s going to be bought to be turned into ANOTHER Stadium for a Major League Baseball team.

Rio is best known by our readers for almost killing their guests.

Freemont Casino to Be Revamped

0

Downtown Las Vegas continues to be a reinvestment hotspot with Boyd Gaming reportedly filing paperwork for a major reworking of the Fremont Hotel & Casino.

Local media reports indicate plans call for a new 320-foot tall, 509-room hotel tower on the corner of Third Street and Ogden Avenue, the opposite side of the resort’s frontage on the soon-to-be revamped Fremont Street Experience main entrance. D Las Vegas and Golden Gate owner Derek Stevens has already begun the first totally new casino/resort in the downtown corridor in decades. It’s an, as yet, officially unnamed but being called the 18 Fremont Street project.

The Fremont currently has 447 guest rooms. Plans call for all of them to be overhauled to become 227 larger and remodeled spaces.

The casino floor will expand by 22,200 square feet, including 20,700 square feet of new gaming areas, plus a new 700-square-foot bar and a race and sports book. Other enhancements include new guest drop-off and ride-hailing pick-up areas, along with significant spaces being added to the existing parking garage.

The project is to be completed in phases over about 30 months. The price tag for the project has been announced. N

Raiders Not Moving to Vegas Soon

0

The Oakland Raiders may be bound for Las Vegas, but it apparently won’t be any time soon.

With the franchise looking for a place to play some or all of its home games in the 2019 season should it not be able to come to an agreement with officials in Oakland on a lease extension, Sam Boyd Stadium — the home field for the UNLV football team — is not considered a possible site for next season, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Raiders are not slated to move to the Nevada hot spot until the 2020 season, when they expect their new stadium in Las Vegas will open that August. However, the team’s lease at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum expires after this season.

But a person familiar with the situation told the Review-Journal that UNLV’s home stadium, which seats up to 40,000 people, is not part of any contingency plans.

The Raiders have met with Oakland officials numerous times over the past several months, most recently in late September, per a CBS report, and the two sides have yet to reach an agreement. Because the city of Oakland is threatening to sue to keep the Raiders from moving to Nevada, the team might choose to leave before 2020 — even without a field booked for next season.

Per a San Francisco Chronicle report on Wednesday, the Raiders intend to leave at the end of this season if the city of Oakland files a multimillion-dollar antitrust lawsuit against the Raiders and the NFL. Per the recent CBS report, the Raiders have reportedly made overtures to officials in San Diego. The two Los Angeles teams — the Rams and Chargers — consider that to be their market, however, and likely would balk at even a temporary relocation.

Playing at the San Francisco 49ers’ stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., also is a possibility for a short-term solution, especially given the proximity to Oakland, but it is believed the 49ers would not favor sharing Levi’s Stadium.

Raiders owner Mark Davis was quoted in late August as saying, “It’s in our minds, but it’s really in the back of our minds right now. We’re really concerned about 2018. Obviously, 2019 won’t be in Las Vegas, but it may have to be somewhere.”

When the Raiders’ move to Vegas is permanent, they will play in a $1.8 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium near the Las Vegas Strip.

How Vegas Will Monetize Autonomous Vehicles

0

The city of Las Vegas is exploring ways to charge autonomous vehicles for pulling up alongside a curb to make deliveries.

Michael Sherwood, director of innovation and technology for the City of Las Vegas, said his team is testing out camera technology and has a “mini-RFP out” to explore how the city could monitor curb usage.

“One of the biggest challenges we look at, not today but in the future, is going to be curb space,” Sherwood said while speaking on a panel at Hitachi Next in San Diego today.

“As autonomous vehicles start becoming more prevalent… what happens when the most expensive part of transportation, the driver, is removed? Where are all these vehicles going to go? Where are they going to park? How are they going to deliver goods and services?”

Sherwood described a scenario when autonomous vehicles are used to deliver packages from Amazon, FedEx and UPS, all arrive at a home or office block at the same time.

“If you think traffic is bad today, it could be twice as bad in the future,” he said.

“One of the things we are looking at doing is using video analytics to come up with a way to monetize the curb and provide a real time API to large or small companies that have autonomous vehicles, so they will know what curb space is available and use their own algorithms to change their pattern of delivery.”

By using cameras to monitor the curbside, cities could charge delivery companies for the amount of time they occupied the space, Sherwood said.

Autonomous vehicles will have flow on effects for many adjacent industries, including how real estate is used. For example a car that can drop you off and drive itself home never has to park in the city.

Central parking garages occupying prime real estate will be knocked down and moved outside the city where the land is cheaper.

Monetizing curb space could also help cities replace the revenue they will lose from parking spaces, Sherwood said.

Traffic Control
Las Vegas is turning to emerging technologies to help better manage its traffic flow.

In the not-so-distant future, the city could use analytics to monitor video footage from its existing infrastructure “and adjust traffic flow automatically through AI” Sherwood said.

“It seems like a far reach but if you go downstairs to the Hitachi showroom and you start weaving it together, you can see that picture. It’s possible and it’s not far off from making that a reality.”

During Hitachi Vantara’s annual user conference in San Diego this week the company showcased its technology solutions including video- and LiDAR-based analytics platforms that captures and analyses real-time movements of people and objects.

Open Data Initiative
As part of its technology program Las Vegas has made 400 data sets available for free through its open data portal.

“In Las Vegas we are not going to monetize the data at all. It belongs to the people, you’ve paid your taxes now we are going to provide it openly to the community. Hopefully that spurs economic development and companies use that data and use it in better ways than we could use it,” Sherwood said.

The aim, Sherwood said, is to encourage citizens and private enterprises to use the data sets to create new products and services which will improve consumers lives. For example a developer created an Amazon Alexa skill using the cities restaurant grades, so consumers can consult their smart speaker before selecting a restaurant.

Cristiano Ronaldo Rape Allegations Reveal Dirty Side of Vegas

0

International soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has been publicly accused of rape by a Las Vegas woman, according to German publication Der Spiegel. Kathryn Mayorga, who filed a lawsuit Friday in Clark County, says Ronaldo raped her in a Vegas hotel in 2009 while she repeatedly screamed no.

Mayorga alleges that Ronaldo hired a team of fixers connected to the vegas club industry to coerce her into signing a $375,000 settlement and a nondisclosure agreement after the assault in 2009. Besides the alleged rape, the lawsuit’s claims against Ronaldo include intentional infliction of emotional distress, coercion and fraud, and abuse of a vulnerable person. Though the allegations were reported in Der Spiegel in 2017, Mayorga has not come forward publicly or provided details about the assault until now.

The former model and elementary school teacher told Der Spiegel in an interview that the assault happened on June 12, 2009; she said she met Ronaldo at the VIP area of Rain — a Vegas nightclub belonging to the Palms Casino Resort, where he was staying. She had been hired by the club through a third party “escort” agency that hired girls to “keep rich men company” in the clubs.

“He just came up to me … grabbed my arm, and he was like: ‘You! Come with me!’ I was like, Are you joking?” she told Der Spiegel. When she said she didn’t want to go with him, he laughed at her, got her a drink, and introduced her to his entourage, she said. He later texted her inviting her and her friends to a party at his hotel room, but he and his entourage were in the lobby waiting for them, saying the party had already ended. “He’s like, ‘We’re going to do our own party,’” Mayorga told Der Spiegel. “I pull [my friend] Jordan aside and I think I said to her: ‘Let’s just take a picture and then let’s go.’ There’s actually a really nice view.”

At the suite, Mayorga said, everyone jumped in the Jacuzzi, but she didn’t want to ruin her dress, so Ronaldo offered her shorts and a T-shirt to wear. She went to the bathroom, which was attached to one of the bedrooms, to change, when Ronaldo walked in “with his penis hanging out of his shorts,” she told Der Spiegel. “Basically he begged me to touch his penis for 30 seconds,” she said. “When I wouldn’t touch it, he begged me to suck it. Like, what an idiot! … he’s a frickin’ loser and a creep. He was like, ‘I’ll let you go if you give me a kiss.’ I said, ‘Okay, I’ll kiss you but I’m not going to touch your nasty penis.’” After that, she added, “He starts to come on to me very strong. And he starts to do stuff to me and touch me and grab me and go down on me. I pushed him away and kept saying, ‘No.’”

When Mayorga got up to leave with a friend, she said Ronaldo pulled her back into the room. “I turned away. He tried to take my underwear off. I turned away from him and curled up into a ball. And I was holding my vagina. And that’s when he jumped on me.” She recalls saying, “No, no, no, no,” before he raped her.

“After he assaulted me, he wouldn’t let me leave again. And he was calling me ‘Baby, baby.’ He gave me this look, this guilty look. Almost like he felt bad. I don’t remember but I’m pretty sure he said ‘Sorry’ or ‘Are you hurt?’ And by this time, he’s … on his knees.” He insisted, she said, that he was “a good guy” except for the “one percent.” In the lawsuit, Mayorga claims Ronaldo said “he was sorry, he was usually a gentleman.”

That same day, she reported the incident to the police and went to the hospital for a sexual-assault examination, according to the lawsuit. Though she initially did not name Ronaldo out of fear, she did weeks later in a police interview — before being contacted by a detective, who told her she would be subjected to retaliation, and that her actions would be described as extortion attempts. The nurse who examined her said the same thing, Mayorga alleges in the lawsuit.

When the sexual-assault allegations were first reported in 2017, Ronaldo’s representatives denied them, releasing a statement that said “the article is nothing but a piece of journalistic fiction. The newspaper has based their entire narrative on documents which are unsigned and where the parties are not identified.”

However, Der Spiegel has since received several documents, some of which it says are signed by Ronaldo himself. In one 27-page document, according to the report, Ronaldo is quoted saying, “She said no and stop several times.” Mayorga did not previously come forward, she said, out of fear of retribution after signing the NDA.

After the recent interview was published, Ronaldo’s lawyer called it “blatantly illegal.” Ronaldo called the claims “fake — fake news” in an Instagram Live post from Friday, writing, “They want to promote by my name. It’s normal. They want to be famous — to say my name. Yeah but it’s part of the job. I’m happy man and all, all good.”

In mediation discussions with Ronaldo’s representatives, the lawsuit alleges, they told Mayorga they were attempting to compensate her for the assault, and that agreeing to the settlement meant she could not speak to the police. In reality, it says, his team was trying to obstruct a criminal investigation and diminish Mayorga’s credibility.

In the lawsuit, she described the mediation process “as re-experiencing the sexual assault,” feeling “extreme fearfulness, complete helplessness and eventually a sense of passivity where she would do anything just to be able to leave/escape/avoid revisiting the sexual assault by continuing the mediation.”
