The Cosmopolitan Gets a SoHo Darling. It Moves Into the Room Blue Ribbon Couldn't Keep.

The short versionThe Corner Store, the SoHo restaurant from Catch Hospitality Group, opens its first location outside New York at the Cosmopolitan on November 9. It takes the third-floor space that used to be Blue Ribbon American Grill & Oyster Bar, the same room Blue Ribbon reinvented once already in 2017.

The Corner Store opens Sunday, November 9, on the Cosmopolitan's third floor, according to Vital Vegas. It's Catch Hospitality Group's Las Vegas outpost of the SoHo spot, and the first one outside New York. The menu is billed as "elevated American classics." There's a Martini Room, and a private dining room for up to 24.

The address is the interesting part. This is the old Blue Ribbon space. Pace Vegas covered Blue Ribbon closing its sushi bar here in 2017 and coming back as Blue Ribbon American. Two concepts, one room, and now a third tenant betting that New York nostalgia sells better on the Strip than New York sushi did.

Off the Strip, the news is going the other way. Durango Casino & Resort is closing three tenants in its Eat Your Heart Out food hall. Uncle Paulie's closed September 30 and its space is hosting pop-ups. Yu-Or-Mi Sushi and Vesta Coffee Roasters close November 10, and Vesta's lobby location goes too. Station Casinos hasn't named replacements.

Pace's takeFood halls were supposed to be the cheap, low-risk way to test chefs. Durango just learned that cheap and low-risk still has to sell a sandwich. Meanwhile the Strip keeps paying New York prices for New York names. Bet on the martini room.
