New Veteran Integration Program Career Center Launching at Goodwill of Southern Nevada

Goodwill of Southern Nevada (Goodwill) will officially open its third Career Center as home of Goodwill’s Veteran Integration Program on Wednesday, November 14. The new location is supported by a grant funded through the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Department, awarded to Goodwill to serve transitioning military members and their families effective October 1, 2018

Goodwill’s Veteran Integration Program helps veterans and their families transition from military to civilian life, find employment, advance in their careers and ensure long-term financial stability for their families. “While you would think military skills directly translate to the civilian workplace, they don’t,” according to Nina Ridgeway, Manager, Veteran Integration Program  “What we do here, is we help veterans show how the skills gained in the military are relevant to the civilian jobs they are interested in,” Ridgeway added, “We help them discover their strengths, the type of work they will enjoy doing, and how to talk the talk, making themselves highly marketable to employers.”

“I’ve been grateful and amazed by the demand for our services and results,” said Nina Ridgeway, Manager, Veteran Integration Program, “When you think about it, we are placing about 5 veterans per week which is astonishing.”

In the last six years, the Goodwill Veteran Integration Program has served nearly 2,500 veterans and their family members.

By providing intensive case management, the program works to help veterans and their families overcome barriers to civilian employment in Southern Nevada.
