Metro Lieutenant Charged In Scam Targeting Elderly

Twice in two days, A  lieutenant with Metro Police has been arrested after being indicted for fraud.

James Melton is accused of being part of a guardianship scam, along with April Parks, Mark Simmons and Noel Palmer Simpson who were also indicted.

Melton faces multiple charges including exploitation of an older person, theft, and grand larceny.

According to the indictment, the group worked together to exploit an elderly couple out of more than $700,000.

The Nevada Attorney General’s Office and LVMPD began investigating Melton in July.

He was placed on paid leave during the investigation. After Tuesday’s indictment, Melton was booked into Clark County Detention Center.

A Metro release says that Melton was bailed out of CCDC.
